BNSF 8834 & 9148 sit at the Burlington, Iowa depot in Feb 2010. This photo shows clearly how the orange color fades badly with time. It will not be long and 8834 will look like chalk and 9148 will look like 8834 does now. I like orange, but BNSF needs to start using better quality paint!

Burlington Northern tank cars. These cars were once used for testing purposes (early 1980s) when the railroad was testing propane as fuel. I worked at Caterpillar Engine Division at the time, and several of these tank cars would be attached to a group of locomotives for long range fuel efficiency testing runs from Wyoming to Chicago and beyond. I quit Cat in 1984 and the program was cancelled shortly thereafter. Illinois side of train bridge across Mississippi River seen at right.

Burlington Northern caboose # 10781 in the yard at Burlington, Iowa. These are used between Burlinton, Iowa and Galesburg, Illinois very seldom. The small windows on lower level are now all welded shut with steel plates, the government made the railroad use only bullit proof glass, so instead of using the expensive glass, they just weld it shut instead. 2006 photo.
